DR. NENNA NWAZOTA

Anesthesiologist/Pain Management

Dr. Nwazota was born and raised outside of Chicago in the United States.  Frequent visits to Nigeria helped her stay in touch with both her extended family and her Nigerian heritage.

After graduating high school, she completed her undergraduate studies at Harvard University earning a Bachelors degree in Psychology with minor degrees in both French and Igbo languages.  Upon graduation from Harvard, she matriculated to Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas where she earned her doctorate of medicine (M.D.) degree.

After completing her medical degree she spent the next year completing her internship at the University of Illinois at Chicago and finished her residency in Anesthesiology at Baylor College of Medicine and its affiliated hospitals.  Baylor College of Medicine is located in the United State’s largest medical center and Dr. Nwazota was fortunate to complete her anesthesia training at some of the countries most renowned hospitals including Texas Children’s Hospital, Texas Heart Institute, MD Anderson, etc.

After finishing her residency training she moved to New York to work at a level-1, tertiary referral, 650+ bed hospital outside of New York City.  There, she honed her anesthesia skills treating some of the region’s sickest children and adults.  Although she loved the fast paced nature of trauma anesthesia, she was very interested in honing her pain management skills so she decided to pursue an Interventional Pain Medicine fellowship at Duke University Medical Center.

She is currently double board-certified in both Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine.  She currently practices both anesthesiology and interventional pain medicine and her professional interests are rooted in pain management including obstetric pain, acute pain and chronic pain management.

Outside of work she enjoys spending time with her husband and two children and traveling!
